Q : what investigations are needed for implant procedure ?

The basic investigation needed is a CBCT imaging in the particular location of planned implant. the scan reveals the quality and dimensions of the bone available and aids in planning implant placement. occasionally we also may prescribe a few blood investigations as and when required.

Q : Can I opt for implant if I have diabetes ?

Those people with diabetes but good control and under medication can opt for implant placement. But poor diabetic control, higher HBA1C levels and severe periodontitis associated with diabetes may increase implant failure.

Q : Can I opt for implant if I have Existing heart condition or blood pressure ?

when diagnostic scans and available bone quality is good, implant placement is not a contra indication for above mentioned. Age, surgical vulnerability, number of implants needed and past medical history will be taken into consideration before actual implant procedure.

Q : I saw a TV commercial showing we can eat any hard foods on implants. Is that true?

Yeah, that is partially correct. You may be able to eat moderately hard food substances on implants. But biting extremely hard foods such as nuts, peanuts , hard candy etc. are not advisable. These kind of foods may actually weaken the cap implant junction leading to loose caps on implants. However your overall ability to chew hard foods will increase undoubtedly.

Q : Will Dental implants interfere with Future Diagnostic Head Scans ?

No significant interferences has been reported with most imaging techniques for the diagnosis. implants are non Magnetic and are not influenced in MRI scans also.

Q : what is the success rate and longevity of Dental implants ?

The success rate of dental implants ranges from anywhere between 80 to 90 %. Occasional implant failures may happen due to poor maintenance of implants, gum disease, other medical ailments after implant placement and excessive occlusal force. with Proper planning and and good oral hygiene most implants do last between 10 to 15 years on an average.
